Department

At the end of 2007, after the celebration of the New Year, Audi Hungaria Internal Combustion Engines Department (BMT) was formed through a cooperation between  Audi Hungaria Motor Kft. (AH) and Széchenyi István University (SZE). At present the department is a part of the Audi Hungaria Faculty of Automotive Engineering.

The purpose of the Internal Combustion Engines Department is to provide the workforce with well-educated engineers in the field of internal combustion engines. From a professional point of view, the emphasis is on engine mechanics, engine building plants and on suppliers in the Győr region. We believe that excellence comes from professional skills and knowledge development, practical, hands on experience and not only learning but also using the German language.

The main field of our department is engine mechanics involving the tribology of internal combustion engines. The uniqueness of our program, not only in Hungary but internationally, is our use of application wearing technology, which makes the real timing of the wearing of internal combustion engines possible. This technology, a functional engine dynamometer and an external powered dynamometer, allows us to carry out component tests and wearing tests. This and our other equipment for research and industrial work all contribute to a higher quality of education.

Besides this special training, practical experience means that there is an opportunity for our students to take part in the Formula Student competition. The Formula Student competition is an international competition where students produce a (single-seat) race car and then race on the circuit. Our Győr students formed the SZEngine Team in 2009, the objective of which was to develop and build a race engine specially for the competition. Furthermore the developments produced each year are shared amongst other competing teams.

‘The Mobility of Future’ series organised by our department, which is mainly visited by researchers, students and experts from the industry has already built up a tradition at the university. Since the autumn term of 2008 lectures of prominent presenters and experts have been popular and well-attended. Our seminars expand on and complement the various scientific fields offered by AH for the engineers working at the different levels of production and also in quality assurance.
